mSATA Data Drive, X230t

#1 Post by doherrick » Thu Dec 13, 2012 11:46 am

I purchased an X220t a while back and returned it.
Times and needs have changed so I decided to buy an X230t to replace my X200t

I found a good deal at a reseller on a X230t w/180 SSD.
I see lots of posts about using an mSATA drive as a boot drive.
Is there any reason I can’t use an mSATA drive for data?

Seem simple to me: add a 256GB mSATA, move my libraries, and I’m done.
All SS X230t. Will dual boot W8 on the 180 drive.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks

The reason people use the msata for a boot drive is because it is a million times faster to load. Unless you are going to be putting data on the SSD that requires a high number of reads and writes, putting the OS on there is by all means the better choice

Thanks

Not sure I understand your reply.
Are you saying it would be better to put the OS on the mSATA and use the 180GB SSD for data?

In this case, your 180 SSD might be faster than the msata, so Id use it the other way around as you suggested. That and its real quick to swap out your primary. I dont do dual boots anymore now that I can pick up older gen intel 80gb's real cheap... I just carry a separate drive and swap when I need too.
