Nigerian scam mail recvd when trying to sell T430s
the scam mail I got. I cannot believe anybody can fall for this.
Btw my post to this effect was deleted, why was that? thanks.
Interesting poit for me - I thought the scammers must be very naive to ask people to give their bank details. And if they got them, you cannot access a persons bank account just knowing the number. Unless you phish or hack their electronic banking login somehow.
But apparently it is a stupidity filter , anybody who responds is stupid enough to be scammed...

Yes, I like how they claim to be a government or corporate official, then use a gmail or yahoo mail account for official business.

Re: Nigerian scam mail recvd when trying to sell T430s
well this is an excellent example of phishing, Nigerian scamm...
This is the second, or third email. First I was contacted by a person pretending to be a prospective buyer.
In this stage, I am being told that the money from Nigeria is waiting in some crazy Scotia bank/
inslult to Scotland...the scammers used some outback old warehouse or depot image to mimic thier idea of a
"scottish Bank"
...
I am told the money from Nigearia is there, and will be sent to me when I give them the tracking details, i.e. send off the laptop.
So, they are trying to cajole my laptop out of me, not money...usually they try to get money, in ficticious advances or fees to help them sending more money back.
This is interesting, as there must be somebody at this address ready to pick up my stolen laptop. Should alert the police in Nigeria I guess...
Did not think selling your laptop can be so dangerous...
I am very proud of my little tweak...
The account holder name I gave them is something very rude in Slovak..
Basically, in Account Holder Name field there is a guy called
Josef Kokotsky, that is,
Joseph "male organ"-sky...
the scammers did not bother to google translate my reply.

Re: Nigerian scam mail recvd when trying to sell T430s
@PRAGUEGUY: Good game, and the leg-pullling fun you employ is entertaining.
Whenever I sell anything on eBay I make it a condition that Nigeria is out of bounds. This is sad because I have met some lovely Nigerian people who are hard working and honest.
A few years ago I contacted the Nigerian embassy in London after receiving loads of scam emails and my parents-in-law receiving a snail-mail scam letter. The embassy staff were very apologetic in their reply and said that the details I sent them might help them trace the source of these scams.
Since then I regularly get the same old scam emails from Dr Omiguli, or the widow of the National Bank, etc.
Just delete them and have a laugh. They try ever so hard!

Re: Nigerian scam mail recvd when trying to sell T430s
well I used to be furious why people from the UK are not willing to sell me things to Prague..I wondered, how can they be worried if they are the seller? And want to be paid in advance? I would understand that you are worried as a buyer, you are much more vulnerable.
I didnt know you could do so many scams even as a buyer against sellers...

Re: Nigerian scam mail recvd when trying to sell T430s
That's why my preferred method of buying and selling used is via the local classifieds face to face and cash in hand. My second method is a trusted seller from the marketplace of a trusted forum such as this one.
