I am addicted to Thinkpads alright.

You can see my past and present units in my signature.

Right now I want a 4291-4CG. But cannot get one cheap used, and can't justify spending full price.

OK, I'll admit it, I'm an addict. Seems like every time I muster the courage to part with one, I somehow acquire two or three more.

I love my Thinkpads! I wouldn't say it's an addiction. More of a hobby.

There are no 17" ThinkPads in current production.

The first and last ones were W700/701/ds.

Hi all. I would say I lean favorably toward ThinkPads when it comes to considering the purchase of a laptop. I feel that for my experience that ThinkPads simply possess key elements that I value such as the relative easiness of repair, low-key looks (I often feel a thief would pick shiny and plastic over a ThinkPad), and a no-nonsense approach to function for their older business line. I also have become quite used to coming to this forum, seeing some familiar names, enjoy reading posts, and helping out when I can. I would say the whole experience from the moment I found the forum to the very first T30 I purchased (many moons ago) are synergistic in my feelings about ThinkPads. The sum of those experiences is assurance that I am purchasing a fine item (not sure about the new models as I have not used one yet) and that I have some friends who can help me out if I get into a jam with my ThinkPad :)

Just for some historical significance and perhaps to remind some members who may have forgot the reasons they stated their reasons for a healthy (bordering on fanatic...haha jk) consumption pattern of ThinkPads. Here is a thread from 2009....yes 2009.

Lenovo cured my ThinkPad addiction in one "cold turkey" step with the keyboard change on *30 series...

I am not an Thinkpad addict. Am Not, am NOT.

Isn't the first step in acknowledging an addiction is to admit it to oneself :) .

I am fairly new to NBR, but use the same name there as well as on Lenovo forum...and a couple of other forums that have nothing to do with computers...

Can I take a wild guess that you're actually invisigoth?

I've never owned more than two ThinkPads at once, which I think would qualify me as a fan, but not an addict.

I miss Woody for some reason. I thought you had that retro 70's wood panel look going pretty well. That was an X200 right? Or was that Blacky?

I would argue that I am 100% addicted...but it's hard to prove since I can't afford a habit.

For now, I just molest other's TP's when they aren't looking.

Would owning 50+ thinkpads in various states of disassembly, about a dozen that are "turn key" and ready to rock and roll, but no room to set them up, two in my bedroom, two in my office (not counting projects and repairs), and a few that get carried around, mean that I'm addicted???

I think not, most women have as many shoes, and they can't be overclocked or upgraded, so what's the point???

I guess the only way to know for sure is to take them all away and see if I get the "shakes"

I have about 30 Thinkpads (R5x, R6x, T2x, T4x, T6x, X3x, X4x, X6x, T400) in fully working condition (but most minus RAM/HD).
And about another 12 in bits, but complete otherwise.
Not to mention an unholy stack of parts.

A TP tinkerer? Definitely!
Me, an addict?
I don't think so, I only use a TP on my sporadic travels.
Otherwise it's Desktop for me all the way.

^^^ Why nay Cigarguy?

Edit:

You do not have to answer Cigarguy. I also apologize. I do not wish to turn this thread into an old TP versus a recent TP match

Oh and to OP I have a T400 also. It works out very well for me. It is very quiet, cool, and has the WXGA+ screen. I have mine on a dock and connected to an external 2TB WD HDD. Total combined USB ports = 7. It is quite the office/student/multitasker machine :)
