No Wireless in Access Connections V 5.97

#1 Post by jdburger » Wed Dec 26, 2012 11:24 am

On Christmas day, I ran System Update for the first time in a number of months.
First, a new version, 5.01.0005, was installed, then, four updates:
ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration Driver - XP/Vista/7 [32,64], version 3.81.0100
ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 7, version 5.97.0.0
Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver - Vista/7/8 [32,64], version 16.2.19.2
Thinkvantage Active Protection System - XP/Vista/7/8 [32], version 1.77.0.9
After a system reboot, I was not able to connect to my home wireless network, but am able to connect via Ethernet cable.
When I try to connect to the wireless I get the message
Connection Failed
Profile name: Neuf_4418
If I click the Help Me Fix This box, the Connection Status is
Profile name: NEUF_4418
Connection status: Not connected
Cause: Association failed - wireless radio not powered on.
Error code: 016
Recommended action: Communication with access point could not be established because the
wireless radio is off. To power on the radio and attempt to connect,
click repair.
If the problem persists, contact your netweok administrator and
provide the troubleshooting information below.

Access conncetions version 5.97

When I click on Repair, I get the same messages.
The Wireless light is ON, however the Lenovo window I get when I use Fn F5 says it is OFF, and clicking the Power On button does not work.

I tried downloading ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 7, version 5.97.0.0 separately and reinstalling it, but this did not help.
When I boot to Linux Fedora 17, the wireless connection to Neuf_4418 works normally, but I had to reenter the security code, and the wireless LED was OFF, but I don't remember what the normal situation was under Linux.
I also tried installing an earlier version of Access Connections (version 5.93), but this did not help, nor did installing Intel Wireless LAN card driver - 14.3.0.6.

I do not know how to notify Lenovo so that they know about this problem, and, of course, I do not know how to get wireless working again in Windows 7.

There is an additional side effect: The Please wait... screen stays on for 7 minutes during reboot before I get prompted to log in.

Welcome to the forum, Joe.

Updating Access Connections is known to often cause difficulties; and as far as I recall this has to do with the order that updates are applied in (I was never impressed with this part of IBM/Lenovo's automatical-update software); see e.g. the thread More Fn-F5 problems.

Access Connections V 5.97 seems to be working OK, at least accrding to the thread Access Connections V5.93
