T43 new XP installation - HD not found
T43 new XP installation - HD not found
I got a bigger HD for my T43, and decided to install the XP from the scratch to have new blood for my old trusty...
The installation starts nice, but it cannot find the hard disk. Apparently there is a driver missing? The new HD is Samsung MP0804H (80GB/5400 rpm/ 8M/PATA), and it was removed from an old T41. I have formatted the HD using a USB-adapter, and it went well.
The old HD is Travelstar HTS541040G9AT00 (40GB/5400/ ATA/IDE)
When installing back the old drive with the XP installed, it works just fine. But the new installation does not proceed.
I have followed this instruction, with no improvement

What to do next?

Re: T43 new XP installation - HD not found
It shouldn't need a special driver. T43 experts can add to this, but the T43 has an HDD whitelist and will not recognize just any HDD inserted in the drive bay.

Is the drive inserted properly - face down, secured in its caddy with all four screws - and pushed in all the way by the hard drive cover?

Even if the drive is not on the "whitelist", it should find the drive and you will be able to bypass the error. What error message do you see?cadillacmike68 wrote:It shouldn't need a special driver. You need to format that HD inside the drive bay of the laptop, NOT in an external enclosure.

Re: T43 new XP installation - HD not found
You still haven't answered my question about the drive position/physical security...the fact that you're not getting a "2010 error" on boot is telling me that the machine is not "seeing" the drive which can be caused by:
a) defective drive
b) incorrectly positioned/inserted drive

Re: T43 new XP installation - HD not found
The HD is installed properly (on the other hand the 40GB with XP works fine without any screws), and the HD was working in the T41 (of course it might have damaged in transfer)ajkula66 wrote:You still haven't answered my question about the drive position/physical security...the fact that you're not getting a "2010 error" on boot is telling me that the machine is not "seeing" the drive which can be caused by:
