Re: planar identity and associated heat/fan assembly

Hi all. I have a spare ATI X1300 motherboard here that I acquired recently from a friend. I am not sure which series the motherboard is from and IIRC he did not know either but thinks it is for a 14" T/R60 series. If it is from either series I am thinking of putting this board a 14” T60 chassis in place of the Intel board presently in it. Looking at the RAM area of the motherboard I see the FRU for the planar.

FRU Planar 44V9916

Looked in the R- and T-series HMM but could not find 44V9916. My bets are that this is a T60 board at this point.

I have all but the fan for the T60 board. I would like the whole heat/fan assembly- copper frame and all. According to the T60 HMM there are two FRU heat/fan assembly for the discrete graphics board. There is FRU 41W6407 and FRU 44V9932. Anyone have an idea which fan assembly would work for the 44V9916 planar?

Looking at this at a cost aspect I really just need a fan for now so it is something I can afford. I do have time now also to work on this during what remains of my winter break so I want to do something with the spare motherboard in my spare time (no pun intended lol). I may spring for a Toshiba manufactured SXGA+ screen when I have some spare change in the near future. I already like how strong the T60 lid feels! The 14” 4:3 factor is nice as it is not huge and it seems lighter than the T400 I use most of the time. I also have experience with the ATI X1300 and like how it is not terribly hot, does not run the fan excessively, and runs W7 well. The Intel Integrated is fine but I prefer the ATI X1300 over the Intel 945. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Either of these fans will work.

You'll get better CPU cooling from 41W6407 and better GPU cooling from 44V9932 in my experience.

Happy ThinkPad-building... :thumbs-UP:
