T410 / bought used / won't boot from disk

#1 Post by gerrychevelle396ss » Mon Dec 31, 2012 3:46 pm

Hi. I purchased a used T410 and also purchased a Segate hard drive. I try to boot from a windows xp disk but I get the following error message.

"A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time that you are seeing this message, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow thiese steps:

check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminiated. Run chkdsk / F to check for hard drive corrueption. And then restart your computer.

technical information: stop 0*00000007B"

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A closer look near the top of the screen and it may say.

INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Enter the BIOS and change the SATA setting.

Also, when I try to boot from the disk, it starts loading files and at the top it says "windows setup". Then, after a minute, I get that error message. It appears that it is trying to load the files.

Did you try changing the SATA setting?

Boot Hiren's and run a surface scan on the hard drive.

Try a different hard drive or different installation media.

Whatever the BIOS SATA setting is change it.

If you check the BIOS SATA setting and it is set for AHCI change it to compatibility. If the BIOS SATA setting is set for compatibility change it to AHCI.
