A31 and Windows Movie maker

My father's laptop is an A31 and he is using windows movie maker to capture a movie from his camcorder over Firewire. This process works fine on his old 770Z (Cele500, 512meg ram), but when he tries it on his A31 (OS from factory) it locks up. The error he gets is that it can't find his Sony camcorder device, just curious if anyone else has had this problem?
