T42 doesnt recognize wireless driver after format

#1 Post by dankatzir8 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 8:32 pm

Hey,

I formatted my ibm thinkpad t42 2373-1WG from the Acess IBM button and then it installed alone all the drivers,
but in Device Manager under Network adapters i only see "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection", and no wireless adapter.
I cant connect to a wireless network.
tried installing all drivers (Networking: Wireless LAN) from the lenovo support website but it doesnt help...

Have you, or someone else changed the wifi adapter from what was originally installed from the factory?

2373-1WG originally came with the Intel 802.11b adapter. If the original adapter is still installed this (1rwc89ww.exe) is the driver you should use. Is it the one you've tried?
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

I Don't actually have a IBM laptop myself, but had the same issue, and as I was searching the net I found a huge amount of similar questions, but hardly any of them answered. So decided to answer them myself. :wink:

Your wifi adapter is probably disabled in your BIOS settings, (To check if this is the case, at startup press the 'Access IBM' button, then press F1, >Config, >Network, >Wireless Network Adapter or similar and check whether it's enabled or not .) If that ís the case, enable, save and exit and see if it works.

Next, if at startup a screen pops up telling you:

ERROR
1802:Unauthorized network card is plugged in - power off and remove the miniPCI network card. or similar,

download this file: http://static.command-tab.com/2006/no-1 ... 802-cd.zip, unzip, burn to disk and boot from disk at next startup, follow instructions and reboot again, Wifi adapter should be listed in the device manager now. Update drivers if you need to and enjoy your wireless connection!

Had to do this myself today, a friend of mine had some repairwork done on her T42 at the local computer repair shop, when she got it back the wireless adapter wasn't working anymore, so she called the shop and was told she would never be able to acces the Internet again via Wifi adapter, they've tried to fix it but didn't have a clue as to what was the problem. Took me about two hours to figure out what was going on and how to fix it, once i had it figured out it took me about 3 minutes to get it going again.

My guess is the repairshop disabled the adapter themselves once they saw the 1802 error, bit lame if you ask me.

(P.S. this works for alot of Thinkpads, check http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/t ... error-fix/ for models and more info, all credit goes to the creator of that website, Collin Allen)

(P.P.S. Sorry for my weird sentence structure now and then, i'm Dutch ;))
