701c MultiportII problem

Hi everyone,
I am having problems with using a Multiport II with 701c. If I plugged the multiport into the butterfly and then powered it on, the laptop wouldn't start. The power light would go on but nothing else.
If I plugged the port right after powering on the laptop some error message about a serial port would show up.

Has anyone experienced this before?
