Certified Used Thinkpads----reliable?

#1 Post by BoostedA4 » Mon May 02, 2005 1:11 am

I just was browsing through the certified used thinkpads and saw one particular model that was of interest. 2373X1B sounded good, but I'm worried the 15" is UXGA and not SXGA+ as it is a T42p model... How would SXGA+ look on a UXGA screen?

Now in a more general sense, are the certified used thinkpads worth buying? Are there constantly new ones being added to the online listing? Are these returns? refurbished? A mixture? How reliable are these? Are these essentially all the Thinkpads you see listed on EBAY.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has any experience with the certified used stuff also.

I've bought three used Thinkpads from the IBM certified used equipment department and have been very pleased with all of them. Each has been in great shape . . . a few signs of wear on the case if you look closely, but otherwise virtually new. The keyboards and LCDs have all been immaculate. No hardware or software problems, either.

You get a 7-day, no questions asked return option, so if you're unhappy with the machine for any reason you can send it back.

Suffice it to say that I'm a strong believer in buying refurbished machines direct from IBM. From other retailers -- no way. But from IBM, definitely. Great equipment at great prices.

I bought IBM certified used ThinkPad T41P last spring,it is very good condition ,no issue in HW/SW.
And in this March,I bought T42P(2373-X1B) in same IBM web, only $1.35K(before Tax), Fast shipment from raleigh,NC.
It has very slightly used sign, but almost invisible, like new one. Also very clean, stable, beautiful screen,no dead pixel, impressive Flex View.
it is worth more than $2.5K.
I strongly recommend 'certified used ThinkPad' purchase by IBM web.Very high cost vs performance, reliable. :)

Certified Used

I bought several things, A31p and extras off of the Ebay Site of IBM certified. I've been VERY happy with their service. I bought a Dock II that was partially DOA but was too busy to do anything about it and 6 months later they sent me an email to answer a survey. I responded to this random survey telling of my dead dock and someone CALLED me a week later, sent me a new one and a nice little travel coffee mug!! go figure!
That's my two cents

Very easy to find, one click off of IBM's webpage:

I've used two T30s and a T41p bought refurb from IBM at excellent prices. All were like new and trouble-free, except for the infamous T30 motherboard problem which was repaired at no cost.
