ThinkPad 235/type 2607 - unable to find replacement battery?

#1 Post by 90210babe » Sat Jan 12, 2013 1:02 am

So I got my hands on one of the elusive Japan-Only ThinkPad 235, aka the Ricoh NP-40 or RIOS Clavius...

Unfortunately it's been had a few different owners, and somewhere down the line the batteries went missing. I can see from the description that it uses two camcorder batteries, but no idea what size/where to source these from.

As it was marketed under a few different names I was able to find some batteries by searching for it under the Hitachi VisionBook Traveler name, but as I don't even have the machine in my hands yet I can't look and see whether this would be a suitable replacement: http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-VisionBoo ... Is there any chance anyone here has one of these around, or perhaps knows of a more obscure website where I could get more info on said camcorder batteries? It's a very neat little machine despite being low powered and I would like be able to make it portable again.

Both :D

I'm 99% certain the PC110 and the TP235 use the same camcorder battery (but my examples are in another building at the mo.) See here for a page from an "obscure website" 8) regarding commonly available alternatives (scroll down to 'Camcorder Batteries'):

Also some history of the IBM-Ricoh "RIOS" partnership that begat several interesting small machines is here:

Clavius is the successor to Chandra, which was the successor to Monolith, which was the successor to Monolith(?!) ...
