: IBM ps2 Ultranav Keyboard in Windows 7

#1 Post by riff » Wed Jan 16, 2013 2:20 pm

Howdy,

I have bought an IBM PS2 ultranav keyboard, and I get to use the mousepad as well as
the keyboard but I can´t get the trackpoint to work.

1.I have a sony vaio vgn-nw275f, which does not come with PS2 ports, so
I have pluged the keyboard using a dual PS2 to USB adapter,
2.I have tried to install the lenovo driver for Synaptic Ultranav
USB trackpoint keyboard, but it won't let me install because the
installation program says that I don't have a synaptics device installed
3.The device manager recognizes the keyboard as a ps2, keyboard,
but the mouse is listed as a HID-compliant mouse Driver. I have tried to
install another driver manually but windows 7 says that it cannot because
HID-compliant mouse Driver is the latest driver.

Any tips on how to fix this issue? I have followed these threads, but
it did not work for me.

Methinks your hardware is not suited/flexible enough.
But maybe you have some exclamation mark in your Device Manager that is unsolved?
Why don't you ask this on a Sony forum?
After all, this IS a Thinkpad forum...

Problem solved:

For people who encounter the same problem, and have tried the solutions posted in other forums:

1. Sometimes the ps2 to usb adapter is the reason for the trackpoint and middle button not to operate. I bought this cheap Chinese adapter on IBM http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Usb-Type-A- ... 27c7bf4d47

2. I then resorted to install the driver for the Thinkpad USB Keyboard with Trackpoint. Follow the steps and install it, remeber the path where the driver gets installed

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... nt_108.exe

3. It is very likely that your pc does not recon the driver yet, and that your middle button still won't work, so you are gonna have to update it manually:

3.1. In computer management click on Mice and Pointing DEvices
3.2.. Right click on the mouse for this keyboard, then select "update driver
3.3 Choose, "browse my computer for software", then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then "have a disk"
3.4 Paste the directory path to the driver, i, click on Ok.

4. If this doesn't work yet, do the following:

4.1. In computer management click on Mice and Pointing DEvices
4.2.. Right click on the mouse for this keyboard, then select "update driver
4.3 Choose, "browse my computer for software", then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer",
4.4. Uncheck the box that says "show compatible hardware", a list with all types of mice will display, scroll down to Lenovo, clic on it, and on the right list scroll down to "Thinkpad USB Trackpoint version...."

It might ask to restart the pc. This worked out me... hope it does to you too.
