Cracked my lid on my X220T :(

#1 Post by jacobtc » Wed Jan 16, 2013 2:35 pm

So yesterday I took out my X220T to do some work at my University here in Denmark. However when I took it out, I noticed that it had a crack on the lid, and I have no idea how i got it! The bag I carry it in, is pretty padded with protective foam, so it must have been something hitting it hard.

Now I wonder; I've seen a lot of new lids on Ebay, and I've seen the maintenance manual for the X220T, however is it hard to replace the lid? I have some experience with electronics, however making my X220T completely useless by trying to repair it, is even worse :(
My warranty expired half a year ago.
Also will that crack eventually cause bigger problems?

Regards
Jacob

Theoretically the crack has created a weak spot on the lid where if something hits again in that exact spot it could damage the screen beneath. I don't know how likely that is, but a lid will be much cheaper than a screen.

I've completely disassembled tablet and non-tablet lids before, if you have some electronic inclination it's not too bad. Just give yourself plenty of time (a couple of hours), work methodically, and follow the manual closely.
