Hi I am hoping someone can shed some light on my problem. Just bought a used W500, updated BIOs and installed Win7 Pro with all the lenovo drivers. But my problem is that the screen freezes after sometimes 5 min, sometimes 30 mins, sometimes with audio sounding like machine gun fire. I've also swapped memory chips around.
Has anyone seen this problem or can offer advice on a diagnostic procedure to determine if its hardware or software?
Thanks for reading.
W500 freezing
Re: W500 freezing
First, look in the event log. There may be a message. I would also run the hard disk diagnostic built into the BIOS. Then I would get one of the free memory testers. If that showed nothing wrong, I would install tpfancontrol and monitor the temperatures. You have switchable graphics. I would check if the problem only happened with discrete mode.
That should give you a few things to try.
