Rescue and Recovery 4.5 and BitLocker

#1 Post by Bánh mì » Fri Jan 18, 2013 11:36 am

Saw this on another board and I have the exact same problem. How to address and resolve????????

I'm TRYING to upgrade to R&R 4.5 (from 4.3). Already uninstalled the old. Have a Bitlocker enabled HDD with two partitions (W7 64 and a data partition) excluding the recovery partition. When trying to install R&R 4.5 I get a message that Bitlocker must be suspended or disabled. I suspended BL in the OS partition and tried installation but still got an error message. This means I should disable BL on the data partition? Its a lengthy process! OR is it because I am using a TPM + PIN to access my HDD? How to address and install R&R 4.5? Plus a read of the R&R 4.5 notes shows the following, which suggests a loop on installing R&R 4.5 and making it work properly. How to address?

Consideration 9 --------------- Cannot enter Pre-desktop Area (PDA) after enabling BitLocker After the user enables BitLocker and encrypts hard disk drives, the user cannot enter the Rescue and Recovery workspace and the system reports an error saying Boot Manager is missing.

The user performs a clean installation of the Windows 7 operating system or an upgrade to the Windows 7 operating system from the Lenovo preloaded Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system. After installing the Rescue and Recovery program and enabling BitLocker to encrypt hard disk drives, the user cannot enter the local PDA anymore. The action of enabling BitLocker will remove the Rescue and Recovery Boot Configuration Data (BCD) entry.

Solution: To solve the problem, reinstall the Rescue and Recovery program after enabling BitLocker.
