X61 Tablet - Win8 - no USB!

#1 Post by holdenburg » Wed Jan 30, 2013 9:13 pm

Hi...

Loaded Win8 and no USB. Device manager looks ok. Tried the update utility and there was only one update but nothing related to USB. Tried Device Manager and un-installed all USB showing and then rebooted - no luck there...

Still trying to figure out a solution. No response when plugging a USB mouse into the USB ports.
My USB data card shows signs of life however the system does not recognize this either. All 3 USB ports do not work?

thanks for the forum...

Some of us are here but I don't have a solution.
I read this topic because I thought you installed Win8 without a usb and I wanted to see how you've done it.
But I don't have Win8 so I dunno how to fix your problem on your pc.

Ok - still stuck on this - may have to put my Win7 HD back in.
I did find some interesting utilities for USB on the MS Developer site but no luck.
Too bad for X61 Tablet because everything else seems to work fine.
I installed Win8 using the download link and enables you to burn media. (Bricklevel Build)
I am considering trying an inplace upgrade on top of Win7 to see if there is any difference.

FWIW, I upgraded an X60 Tablet to Win 8 and the USB drivers seem to be working. Is there that much of a difference between the X60T and the X61T?

If all else fails, I would try re-installing and see if the problem persists. HTH

UPDATE-- I reloaded Win8 on 2-12-13 and all is now ok - I think I figured out what happened. I use an At&t USB 4g data card. When I loaded what I thought was the correct 64bit software it must have affected the USB devices/driver on the system. Since I have identified the correct software after calling At&t and doing a reload of the OS - all is well. Very strange - I don't remember any notification during the load of the incorrect software that there was any issue - and then thinking the USB data card was not working I called At&t. It was then during the call that I realized that it must have been the load of this one incorrect application that resulted in the USB ports not working. And it was not a broken data card. The 4g card is now working after the reload and using the correct At&t software. The Sierra Wireless card watcher software may have been the application that caused the issue. We use these data cards and Sierra Wireless cardwatcher software at work on our Win7 64 builds instead of the At&t communication manager since the Sierra Wireless software seems to be easier to manage.
