T43 with ultrabay caddy 62P4554 - SATA or PATA drive?
T43 with ultrabay caddy 62P4554 - SATA or PATA drive?
I understand that the T43 uses PATA drives and I have read the forum re modification to convert it to a SATA drive. I am wondering, however, if I purchase a slim bay caddy (62P4554 or 62P4553) if I can use a SATA drive in it or must I still get a PATA drive?

When you use an Ultrabay caddy (a.k.a. 2nd hard disk adapter) for SATA drives, you insert a SATA drive in the caddy.
The main drive bay (without a SATA mod) still requires an IDE/PATA drive, or be empty.

Re: T43 with ultrabay caddy 62P4554 - SATA or PATA drive?
Hi,
Does anyone know if the T4x Ultrabay hard drive caddy was made by IBM or is it a third party invention? All the ones I see on ebay don't have an IBM logo on them and the descriptions are not clear, so I am suspicious. I only want genuine IBM products.
Thanks.

Hi,
Does anyone know what the difference between Ultrabay hard drive caddy 62P4553 and 62P4554 is? In the Hardware Ref. Manual, it is listed as 62P4553 but on ebay they are listed as 62P4554.
Thanks.

Same thing; one is the P/N, the other the FRU number.
