T43 performance question

#1 Post by proutpa » Thu Feb 07, 2013 3:54 am

Hi everybody, new user here :)

BTW thanks for all the write ups on Windows 7 and the other very useful utilities - I'm loving the two finger scroll and fan/cpu/gpu utilities!!
You guys are really knowledgeable.

I just got a used T43 and put Windows 7 on it but I'm really surprised how bad the YouTube performance is on anything above 480p - lots of stutter.

Is this normal (native windows 7 gpu driver) for windows 7, am I better off clean installing XP?

Thank you.
Paul

I don't think it's a GPU issue, but the fact that the older single core Pentium M is now eight years old. It's fine for Office and Internet type stuff, but anything where it's going to push the CPU, it'll chug.

What's the full model number of that T43, located on the same sticker that holds the production date and serial number on the bottom of the machine?

You could try and install the Omega GPU-drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/index.php?o ... &Itemid=96

Are you sure that is the right site?
I only has NVIDIA drivers and none for ATI.

If you had just checked the list on the left...
I passed on the wrong link: ATI Omega here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/index.php?o ... &Itemid=54

This is the driver that I use on my T43pFL and prefer by a high margin to the one that comes with W7:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... d302ww.exe

Granted, I do have a stronger CPU/GPU, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I do hope you have the RAM maxed out at 2GB, correct?

I saw those links RealBlackStuff but there are no drivers for Vista/Windows 7 only for XP/2K

Thank you ajkula66, those do seem better then the Windows Update default drivers I had installed before :)

All you guys are great, thanks!!

Try using the fullscreen magnifier when playing fullscreen flash (fn + space a resolution of 1024x768 or 800x600 should be good) and avoid high definition flash.

XP should give you better performance, but not much when it comes to flash, even Windows Vista SP2 runs better on T43's then 7 with a bit of tinkering.
