ThinkLight does not work in Win8?

#1 Post by shinjiplus » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:46 am

I've installed the latest HotKey drivers from Lenovo on both my X200 and X201 with a fresh Win8 install (in both Win8 and Win7 Compatibility Mode) and the ThinkLight does not work :(

Has anyone gotten the ThinkLight to work in Win8?

I know the hardware works because it was working in Win7 prior to fresh install of Win8.

I have other Win8 woes but this is the most bothersome.

No problem here with my X220. Perhaps you need to install the Intel Chipset drivers, but I had thought the ThinkLight was strictly in hardware.

Works on my X201

I'm using a no-whitelist bios, but I'm pretty sure it worked before.

What is a no-whitelist BIOS?

I tried this app (https://sites.google.com/site/filesarka ... edirects=0) and the error when I attempt to run it says: "Error: could not access the ThinkLight, are the drivers installed?"

So perhaps I don't have the right drivers for the ThinkLight? Which drivers do you have installed for Win8 on your X201? I'm pretty sure I installed all the available Win8 drivers. Since the ThinkLight is not working on my X200 nor X201, perhaps I missed a driver?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the ThinkLight is independent of the OS.

As a test reboot into BIOS and press your ThinkLight hotkeys Fn+PgUp. Does the ThinkLight illuminate? The purpose of trying it out in BIOS is that drivers and OS are excluded from the equation. If it does not work in BIOS then you most likely have a hardware problem.

No-whitelist bios means that the whitelist of pci-e and wireless cards is removed so you can use most any pci-e devices without getting a 1802 error at start up. some also include other functionality.

I upgraded from win7 not a fresh install, I didn't load anything except what win8 asked for.

I've done some more reading and it's probably the LCD ribbon cable. It's just that both my X200 and X201 crapped out at the same time (when I upgraded to SSDs and Win8) that had me confused.

With no HDD, my other X201 can turn on/off the ThinkLight in BIOS. That is not possible in my X200/X201.

Thanks for the help!
