Recovery CDs?

#1 Post by pennypacker » Thu Jun 17, 2004 10:42 am

I had a question about the recovery cds that one can order from IBM.

I actually received the recovery cds yesterday... and I haven't even gotten my t42 yet! The cds say that they are for Thinkpad R50, R50p, T41, T41p. Do you know if these also work with the T42s? I'm assuming they can and that IBM hasn't gotten the chance to reprint labels for them yet.

As far as I know, if you have the serial number of your T42 you can call IBM and order it (the IBM guy asked my T40's serial number when I ordered it). Maybe with a little luck you'll be able to order it without knowing the serial number. Good luck!

The serial number was in the email/status page that I received from IBM when my computer was shipped. Since my laptop has taken over a week to clear customs, I was able to get the cds before the computer. If you call IBM within 30 days of shipment, you can get them for free; otherwise, they're like $30.

I guess I'll have to order them when I get my thinkpad since I ordered it through Bill and he is the one with all the information (status, serial number, etc...) :(

There are 5 T40/41 restore cds. I couldnt imagine that they are very differnt at all between the T42s. Just new versions of the drivers.

I just received the recovery CDs for my T42, but they sent the wrong ones. They sent me the CDs for a T40, T40p Type 2373, 2374. I called them and they are going to send me the correct ones, I hope. The T40 set is 5 CDs, but only 4 of them are recovery CDs. The 5th CD is a "Security Update CD for Access Support".

How long did it take them to get you the T42 CD's? And do you know the part number? When I called the guy said he ordered the correct number (for the 2378) but the computer had been giving him some problems.

I guess the way I worded my post was confusing. I ordered the CDs for my T42 but received them for the T40 instead. I just called IBM this morning and they are sending out the correct ones for my T42. They sent out the first set by DHL and it only took a few days. I hope I get the right CDs this time.

Make your own set. It's much better and faster at installing / restoring.

Just thought I'd share, my access IBM doesn't have this option. I think only the T42s have the newest version that lets you do this....

my bad.. i didn't look to see if the person who i replied to was the person who started this thread (who has a T42). the ability to create them yourself is a T42 only option i believe.
