Thinkpad X40 and sd card to ide 44pin?

#1 Post by rorlover » Sun Feb 10, 2013 8:17 pm

Ive been looking at harddrive alternatives for my thinkpad x40. It still has it loud and slow 40gb harddrive. I looked into cf card adapters and cf cards a little expensive and too small for me. So i looked if there was sd to ide 44 and there is. I was just wondering if anyone has success with this and if no one has ill just buy it and let you all know. Heres the link to the one i would get.

I haven't seen reports on those yet, but you have other options:

1.8 inch SSD with ZIF-to-44-pin-IDE adapter
mSATA SSD with mSATA-to-44-pin-IDE adapter

Thinkpad X40 and mSATA ssd to ide 44pin

Bösendorfer has put a mSATA PCI-E SSD plus adapter board in an X40, and has a set of detailed pictures of the project at http://www.sweclockers.com/galleri/1047 ... -msata-mod

There are new and used mSATA SSDs and new 3.3V adapter boards available on eBay.

The modification is also discussed near the end of the thread at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 17#p702317

I did the installation on my X41, and find it very worthwhile. The 64GB SSD and adapter cost a bit over $60 US delivered.

Consider Compact Flash to IDE adapters. Provided that they can do UDMA, Compact Flash tends to cost less than Secure Digital as a function of speed and capacity.

For a second I thought you have a 5100. That would be way beyond awesome.
