Tablet ThinkPad for Student/Programmer
Tablet ThinkPad for Student/Programmer
Hello guys, I'm back again with another plea for a recommendation. I am going to be attending college soon for Technical Support (with classes including Unix, Web Design, Business Networking, etc) and need a new laptop for it. I am looking for a laptop that can surf the web fine, if it could play Minecraft, DustForce, LoL/DoTA2, that would be awesome, if not whatever.
I do want a tablet because I do like to draw in my spare time, so it needs to be able to run those programs (recommends for sketching? I heard something called Sai...) but it wouldn't be 100 layers of Photoshop editing. I also like to program Java in Eclipse IDE, and want to teach myself either python or HTML.
My budget is kind of low ($300) and I am looking on eBay. I found this one and wanted to know if the price was good or if you have any links to Buy-It-Nows that are worth my while, that'd be great. If it makes any difference, condition does matter, and if possible I'd like it to have the IBM badge as opposed to a ThinkPad logo (my father used to have one, nostalgia).
Here are the one I've found;

That one is not for gaming, but has the desirable SXGA+ screen.
It's a very nice and decent looking machine at a very good price.
If 3GB usable RAM is enough for your purposes, go for it.
If other machines should have Lenovo badges, most of those (at least on less recent models) can be replaced with IBM badges, they are just (thick) stickers, available on eBay or on old hardware.
For programming purposes, any laptop, even with Atom CPU, will do.

Alright good to know on the programming level. It looks like it could do the drawing and such just fine. Could it stream 720p YouTube videos?
*Edit* Nevermind. I realize I won't be able to game on a tablet PC without copious amounts of spending.
Thanks guys!

Re: Tablet ThinkPad for Student/Programmer
hello there,
I'm currently seeking for laptop / tablet for my girlfriend which will replace her edge 11.
X60 Tablet would be great I think, BUT there is one think she would miss and it is touchpad as she isn't very familiar with trackpoint only ( still doesn't understant why - nevermind ).
12'' screen is just about optimal, no mather if 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10 but IPS would be nice...
another MUST is capability to run Windows 7 smoothly and built in webcam.
anyone know if X61 / X200 Tablet has been made with touchpad ever?

X60 or X61 (regular or tablet) does not have a webcam and never came with a touchpad.
X200 series also does not have a touchpad but the X201 does.
Both X200 and X201 (regular and tablet) are available with a webcam.
