T43 won't turn on

#1 Post by Danno » Fri Feb 15, 2013 9:59 am

Hi.
A while ago my laptop had problems detecting my hard drive, and after buying a new hard drive and getting the same issue I put it down to a loose Southbridge chip. It was cheaper to get a new motherboard than to get it resoldered, so I bought one.
It came through today and after replacing it, the laptop won't turn on. It blinked on for a split second then nothing. It won't even blink now unless I take out the battery and hold the power button for about 30 seconds then try again. No lights come on when I plug in the charger.
So what's going on? Have I missed something when replacing the motherboard? Or could it be a faulty board? I've never had a problem with the battery, and everything inside was plugged in as far as I know. I'm tempted to try the old board to see if it'll power on. I'm really hoping this is a common problem with a simple fix.

The model is 2668.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like your "new" board is dead.

Good luck with returning it.

Also I thought I'd mention, something I thought was odd and might have something to do with my problem, the new board doesn't have an ATI chip. It's not like it's 'missing', as there doesn't seem to be a place for it. Like where it should be there are other little typical circuitboard things like the rest of the board.

You received a board with Intel integrated graphics.
Check the P/N or FRU (under the RAM module on the bottom), then check my motherboard-list to see what exactly you got:

Oh I see.
So is it definitely a dud board then? I can return it easily, pain in the [censored] though. I really thought it would all be sorted today!

Before I send it back is there anything else I can try?
