How to turn on Bluetooth
How to turn on Bluetooth
I upgraded my X200T to Win8. I can find no way to turn on Bluetooth so that I can attempt to install a driver. How can I do this or otherwise get Bluetooth working? Thanks.
Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
have you checked that it's not disabled in the BIOS? (just a guess since I have neither an X200T nor Win8)
Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
I didn't see it listed in the BIOS.basketb wrote:have you checked that it's not disabled in the BIOS? (just a guess since I have neither an X200T nor Win8)
Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
That's a rough one because Fn + F5 probably doesn't work on your X200T and unless it's turned on there is probably no listing
for blue tooth in the Metro PC settings screen either. At least that's the case on my X200T.
Unfortunately I'm doing this from memory since I'm at work now but my fix was as follows.
If you upgraded to Win 8 from 7 or XP then you need to find the Hot Screen display driver folder in Explorer. When you
click on it a few folders will be displayed, one of which is called Fn F5 or something. Open that folder and click on a file that
starts with tp something.exe. There are about 3 .exe files in there IIRC, just click them all until the Wireless/Blue Tooth screen
pops up. Now you can tun on both Blue Tooth and Wireless. I put a short cut in my task bar and use it from there.
If you did a new install then you'll need to download an older version of the Hot Key software since the newest X200T Win 8 one
doesn't work.
That should do it.

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
It is not necessary to download and install the older hotkeys utility to get the old style wireless OSD. Simply install the latest windows 8 hotkeys with setup.exe properties adjusted to support Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
On my x200 tablet the latest Hot Key software no longer works at all. Even when it did it just went to the Metro change PC settings window but you need to have Bluetooth on to see it there. The only way around I found was as I wrote above.
The file in question is tpFnF5.exe and it works like a charm from the taskbar.
I guess the OP got it working now since there is no update.

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
Just follow my instructions and install the latest hotkeys in windows 7 compatibility mode. I'm well aware how tpFnF5.exe works and have used it directly for a long time. It will be available in the latest version if hotkeys is installed as indicated above.

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
I was out of town and otherwise occupied until now. I followed these instructions and Fn+F5 brings up the wireless radio power controls. But it only displays in Desktop mode. When you hit it in the Modern UI, it just brings up the PC Settings as before. It will not show Bluetooth there, even when it is already on. Thanks for the help.steveg47 wrote:Just follow my instructions and install the latest hotkeys in windows 7 compatibility mode. EDIT: Just noticed that even in Desktop mode, the OSD appears briefly then the PC Settings screen pops out. If you hit Fn+F5 again while the PC Settings screen is out, the OSD will come on again and stay on.
Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
That's exactly what happened to my x200 tablet with the latest version of the hot key software.
You need to to find an older version (maybe for XP?) and install it. Then activate it through a shortcut
in Explorer. Regardless, it will only display in the desktop mode but the old versions of hot keys will show
'bluetooth on' in the Metro settings menu. At least mine does.

Re: How to turn on Bluetooth
I had to figure this out again, so came back here. Installing with Windows 7 compatibility works perfectly with the latest Hotkey integration. Interestingly, the Wi-Fi radio doesn't show up with Fn+F5, though it does show in Wireless in Change PC Settings, where Bluetooth does not display.steveg47 wrote:Just follow my instructions and install the latest hotkeys in windows 7 compatibility mode.
