[Withdrawn]: cheap barebone T60

#1 Post by DaKKS » Sun Feb 17, 2013 2:43 pm

Need a cheap barebone 14" T60 series for a mobo/plastics transplant. My friend's daughter spilled something really really sticky on his T60 and then junior tried to shake the liquid out of it, dropping it in the process.

A working unit without cpu, ram, hdd, battery would be optimal. Decent shell would be nice, but not a requirement. He's flexible on the config, damaged unit was a 14" XGA W/ GMA so it can't get any worse.

Need it shipped to Sweden. So I prefer European sellers. I'm searching locally as well.

state side granted but I could probably scrounge up something if nothing else does. Does the screen work though, and if so, do you plan on re-using that?

Ta, mate. I'll keep that in mind.

Well, the screen seems a bit dodgy. It works, but dies after a few minutes. And not just the back light, but completely. Might be a compatibility issue though. My T60 is a 15 wide, and the screen is a 14" 4:3. If its serviceable, I'll probably re-use it. But at the moment, I'm assuming that it does not work.

From the drop, the LCD cable might have worked itself loose.
And a broken CCFL sometimes still works for a short while, until it gets too hot and conks out. Cool, work again, hot, conk out again, etc.
Within the T60/R60/T61/R61 group, the LCD-connectors on the cables and motherboards are all identical.
Any size screen will work with any size laptop, even if they don't mechanically 'match'.

I may have a T60 with presumably dead planar, it has T7200, 14.1 SXGA+ screen etc. Otherwise in nice condition.

oh you have a 15" wide screen model. The most I have is a planar card and maybe other misc stuff as all of my parts are for a T60 14.1 (4:3).

Curious though RBS, how exactly would a 15" screen work on a 14" frame, and vice versa ??

Thanks, but the planar is the most important part.

Mine is a 15 wide, the T60 I'm fixing is a 14 (4:3).

My first thought was the backlight, but if the CCFL is gone then you can still faintly see the screen. This one turns completely black.

For testing purposes, you can mix'n'match to your heart's content.
It's not a pretty sight, but a 14.1" (4:3 and possibly also a 14.1" WS) screen would fit inside a 15" lid.
VV is not possible without major modifications, and then only when you are absolutely desperate...

Thanks for the confirmation RBS, at least i can rule out my T60 as the cause. Looks like the lcd is busted then. I was hoping to re-use it, but no big loss i suppose. XGA screens grow on trees.

Located a very nice looking T60 eighty-ish kilometers from where i live. It's a CTO model, Core Solo, but SXGA+ screen and GMA.

Also, the seller had an R61 he couldn't get to work. I chatted with him for a while, suggesting a few fixes until he finally asked if i wanted it. He said he'd sell it for 287 SEK ($42,67USD). Asked him why that specific number and he answered that he was so [censored] off he just wanted to get drunk, and a bottle of his favorite vodka is 287 sek...

He said the previous owner had tried to upgrade the CPU and it stopped working, even after swapping back to the original. He couldn't get it to even post so he just wanted to get rid of it. Once i got home i figured what the hell, I have two hours to kill. I can at least confirm the diagnosis.

Image

The idiot forgot to lock the cpu socket! Threw in an SSD, 4Gb ram and now i'm scouring my cpu shelf for that T9500 i had a few years ago... Middleton bios is the next thing on the list. Best part, its a native penryn intel board. Even without proper drivers, windows 7 ultimate 64 flies on this thing. Not bad for a nearly five year old laptop.

Yeah, it was a great deal. Its pretty busted up, though. LCD bezel, palmrest and keyboard needs to be replaced. And the hinges feel a bit hinky too. But overall it survived pretty well.

Time for my T42 to retire. It'll probably show up on the marketplace in a few days.

EDIT: Flashed Middleton bios, quick test showed 242mb/sec. Realized my 2x2gb modules were 1x2 and 1x1gb... Currently running windows updates. Battery is pretty bad though. The 4 cell was rubbish even new, but with 24% wear, its even worse.

Lenovo Support says:
