anyone used a 1.8''/mSATA adapter in a T400s/T410s?

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with fitting one of the generic adapters you find on eBay to a T400s and T410s.
The idea has been floated already on this forum but I've not seen any report of a sucessful replacement of a T400s/T410s system drive with a mSATA SSD + cheap adapter.

I am interested to hear as well.

I bought one of the cheap generic adapters from ebay shipped from China several months ago and have it sitting on the shelf. I never got around to buying the mSATA drive to install in there. My decision was set on the Muskin Direct Atlas Deluxe 240GB or 120GB.

I got this screen issue on my T410s, and have been hesitant to put any more money into it: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-76367

Have you simply tried to fit the adapter in the laptop? Is the fit secure?
There are more expensive adapters with extra plastic that gives it a shape more similar to that of a 1.8'' drive than the cheap eBay adapters. If your cheapo doesn't fit well, I might try one of the more expensive adapters.

It fits well. I slid it in and then tried to see if it would come lose by shaking and jarring the computer. It stayed put just fine. There is a large gap underneath the adapter where I would probably put a folded up paper towel to hold it in a little firmer for the long term.

I just changed out the screen in my T410s, so I may end up getting the SSD anyway.

Yes, I have successfully replaced the stock 1.8" HDD in my T410s with a Crucial M4 mSATA SSD, using an adapter by Micro SATA Cables (www.microsatacables.com).

I used a cut-out piece of foam envelope (for the adapter) to pad the drive/adapter combo in the main bay.

Did you use the adapter with the hard drive caddy or just loose in the bay? I've been looking for a caddy for the 1.8 inch bay and not finding one yet, maybe this is a way around that.

For the T400s and T410s, no caddy exists. The drive itself slides in/out on these. As the above posts mention, it is probably a good idea to find some non-conductive material to fill the gap with these mSATA to microSATA adapters.
