factory audit or reseal?

#1 Post by audio » Sat Feb 23, 2013 2:20 pm

after nuked mbr by linux managed to start install xp from the service partition(but not directly from within because it stopped saying -Product recovery failed to restore) and got to the point wher upon boot, xp actually sysprep, says-
do Factory?do Manual Audit or Reseal?(and of course Xp wants product activation)
on another forum user said factory just rebooted to same questions(although this is what I think should be picked because I was actulally on the way to factory reinstall)
What do you should be selected to finish install normally
(by this I mean probsabbly add some drivers convert partition to NTFS and activate with the volume license from the service partition)
-this is what lenovo says abour sysprep

actiivated - Do not reset the grace period for Windows product activation. Use this parameter only if you have activated the Windows installation in the factory.

Important The product key that you use to activate the Windows installation must match the product key that is located on the COA sticker that is attached to that particular computer.
.....

-audit - Restarts the computer in Factory mode without having to generate new security IDs (SIDs) or process any items in the [OEMRunOnce] section of the Winbom.ini file. Use this command-line parameter only if the computer is already in Factory mode.
-bmsd - Populates all the available mass storage devices in the [SysprepMassStorage] section.
-clean - Clears the critical devices database that is used by the [Sysprep

-factory - Restarts in a network-enabled state without displaying Windows Welcome or mini-Setup. This parameter is useful for updating drivers, running Plug and Play enumeration, installing programs, testing, configuring the computer with customer data, or making other configuration changes in your factory environment. For companies that use disk imaging (or cloning) software, Factory mode can reduce the number of images that are required.

When all the tasks in Factory mode are complete, run the Sysprep.exe file by using the -reseal parameter to prepare the computer for end-user delivery.

-forceshutdown - Shuts down the computer after the Sysprep.exe file finishes.

-reseal - Clears the Event Viewer logs and prepares the computer for delivery to the customer. Windows Welcome or Mini-Setup is set to start the next time that the computer restarts. If you run the sysprep -factory command, you must seal the installation as the last step in your preinstallation process. To do this, run the sysprep -reseal command or click the Reseal button in the Sysprep dialog box.

It's difficult to understand your English, but here's what you can do :

1) Try to get a second hand Windows XP CD.
2) If the MBR was destroyed, restore it with a live CD, typically you can use gParted.
To start from the live CD, modify the startup order in the BIOS,
so that the CD drive comes before the IDE hard drive.
3) Using gParted (or another tool), create the NTFS partition on your hard drive where you are going to install Windows (and also create any other partition you want)
4) Boot from the Windows CD and install Windows.
5) In Windows, install the Ethernet driver, dowloaded from Lenovo's website.
6) Connect the Ethernet network cable to your computer. (i.e. the ADSL cable)
7) Open Internet Explorer : if you can see the default web page, you'll be able to activate Windows using Internet.
8) Activate your installation of Windows.

Then, install all other drivers, available from Lenovo's website, and all will be OK.

I don't think there's that much wrong with OP's English, but it's very clear that you have no idea about the scenario he's referring to...

To OP: choose "reseal" and see where that gets you. I've never had to go through this with T42 R&R though.

did reseal and finished install however had to do manual driver download and setup, disk is still fat32 and win prompts for activation so rnr service partition turned out to be useless for reinstalling XP
As for activation I understand I actually did a clean install option B
like they do for Vista

now question is where can one download the file like lenovo.oemcert.100036.xrm-ms that works for xp(I found the 0something.imz on dvd but cannot decrypt it)?
