dvd/cd burner unit

#1 Post by erp52 » Wed Feb 27, 2013 7:18 am

I need to replace the the cd-rom burner unit on myt43. On it, it says FRU 39T2577 and ASM39T2576. On ebay, they have a lot, but with different model numbers. Does it make a difference which one will work? Ed

Any FRU made for the T4x series will fit perfectly and work just fine.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Welcome to the forum, Ed!

... and congratulations with your "new" T43! :thumbs-UP:

As to your question about suitable CD/DVD drives for T4x/p Thinkpads, this question has been discussed in the past, and because I'm a bit lazy today (sorry!), I hope it's OK to just point your attention to the following threads (rather than repeating all over again what's already been said and repeated!), where you will find all the information you need... and more! :wink: So, have a look in these threads: DVD burner upgrade and T42-serie Multiburner upgrade (+ silent mode problem) and T43 and T60 DVD drive compatibility and Swapping T60 Multiburner w/ T42 DVD/CDRW and chosing a multiburner for T42 and finally WTB: "Ultrabay Slim Multi-Burner III" (DVD-RW) for a T60 where you will find part-numbers on the newest and fastest DVD-RW's usable in T4x/p's.

If you are new to T43's, then I also suggest you to have a look in the thread T43p CPU Temps and NHC and more specificly in this post and the links pointed to therein as this will give you a hint of how the fan noise can be reduced in your T43, while at the same time also increasing the battery time... a true win-win situation! :-)

Thank you very much, guys, for that info. And I will certainly look into all the those websites, Johan, you mentioned. Ed

Johan, looking at all those websites was interesting. One mentioned something about uninstalling the device. I thought all one has to do is put the replacement in, and it's O.K. ? Ed
