Question about Windows 7 COA on x220?

X200, X201, X220 (including equivalent tablet models) and X300, X301 series specific matters only.

Question about Windows 7 COA on x220?

hi there,
i have x220 and under battery there is a Windows 7 COA key. I just want to ask if that serial key is the windows disc taht was supplied with the laptop when purchase from lenovo or it can be used with any other windows 7 disc regardless of version?

No disk is supplied by Lenovo. You can burn a set from your recovery partition, but only once.

As long as the disk you're using is for the same type of W7 (Home vs. Pro vs. Ultimate) you should have no problems apart from having to install additional drivers after the OS is in place...

If you run into trouble with your Win7 installation, you can download a legal bootable disk image from here:

or from the Digital River servers.
But it has to be the same version as the original installation, because the COA only works for that.

Not sure what the original version was, but think it was Windows 7 Pro as that's what's on the COA sticker under battery...

Then that's what you have to use...both 32 and 64-bit version can be applied, COA covers that and the choice is yours.

Just a note about activating the COA on the bottom of the system, occasionally I have found that they don't activate online right away, and you need to call in to activate it, however if you reinstall windows later, the code should activate without a problem.
