Wireless a/b/g card problems

#1 Post by ross1066 » Wed May 04, 2005 10:43 am

Hi,
I have a thinkpad T40 2373-14G and recently added a 512Mb RAM module and an IBM a/b/g wireless card.

I am having all sorts of problems with the wireless card. I think it is the wireless card but as I just mentioned the 512Mb RAM chip just in case someone out there knows it may be causing the problem.

Anyway, when I connect using the wireless card to another computer in ad-hoc mode everything is ok. But after restarting windows sometimes it hangs for ages and never fully loads (taskbar does not appear) and other times the network connections don't appear for about 5 minutes. Also a couple of times a blue screen came up on startup (windows stop error) but I can't remember what it said other than something was "NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" When I disable the wireless card everything else works fine.

I have tried reinstalling the wireless driver and updated the hotkey driver. I don't have Access connections installed. I am using Windows zero config to manage my connections.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if you have the driver installed correctly, the problem may be of your wireless device and the solution may be just a replacement.

Thanks for your suggestion, the wireless card may be at fault but I'm not sure. I have also had other problems with my thinkpad:

Internet Explorer sometimes was unable to connect to the internet even though in 'network connections' the connection was ok.

I removed the wireless card, reinstalled XP, and this problem was still there.

I removed the 512Mb RAM also and reinstalled XP and the problem went away.

So, considering both problems I am wondering if there is a problem with the mini pci slots in my machine. Everything seems ok when they are both empty. I have read about memory issues, conflicts, IRQ stuff etc etc and am confused by it all. Anyone any ideas about this? Thanks in advance.

Try cleaning the contacts on the SODIMM and the memory slot, over the years this has fixed a number of hardware problems for me.
