Correct Mobo Replacement for R61 with Nvidia dreaded beeps
Have an R61
It's a 774305U -
s/n L3-B9270 08/06
Based 7743-N4U: T8300(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x900, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
The board is FRU 44C3934 with Nvidia graphics
Upon boot, I get long beep, then two short beeps with blank / black LCD indicating mobo, dimm or display. Appears to be mobo as I've checked dimm and display best I can.
So, I'm trying to sift through old posts between this forum and lenovo. I know I need intel graphics x1300 board with socket P as I have T8300 chip.
I'm having trouble locating the exact board I needed. I found this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thin ... 460a0ba9b6
But doesn't look like the correct socket.
Can someone let me know the proper FRU for my machine? I would very much appreciate it.

Applicable FRUs include, but are not limited to: 42W7842, 42W7868 (no FireWire port) or 42W7843, 42W7869 (with FireWire).
Happy hunting.

Am I mistaken or can I (and I thought preferably) use a T61 board?ajkula66 wrote:Applicable FRUs include, but are not limited to: 42W7842, 42W7868 (no FireWire port) or 42W7843, 42W7869 (with FireWire).

I believe you can use a T61 planar, but am not 100% certain.

Where did you get the FRUs you listed? From R61 HMM?

Re: Correct Mobo Replacement for R61 with Nvidia dreaded beeps
OK, so here's where I'm at:
I'm having a really hard time finding specific info on certain boards to determine if they have socket P sockets or not (I have a T8300 processor).
So,
Here's what I've figured out (based on research and more importantly the HMM for my machine).
The T61 Boards will fit - I need X3100 and socket P
42W7866 - appears to be good to go
41W1487 - NOT good as it is NOT a socket P board
R61 boards
42W7842
42W7868
The two above HAVE firewire
42W7843
42W7869
The two above DON'T HAVE firewire.
So, I know amongst those 4 for the R61, 2 are likely socket P (one with and one without FW) and 2 are not. But I'll be **bleep** if I can find a reliable source to find out which are which. I've been searching for a couple hours straight.
So, if anyone knows the direct answer to that OR even better can point me (or somone reading this post in the future) to where they would find that info, that would be fantastic.

Re: Correct Mobo Replacement for R61 with Nvidia dreaded beeps
OK let's get this straight: ALL of these boards ARE socket P.
The difference is that the older one (built for Merom CPUs) will throw an "thermal error" on boot when a Penryn CPU (such as T8100/8300 or T9300/9500) is installed.
Flash Middleton's modded BIOS - which you'd want to do to get SATA II speeds anyway - and the issue of warning at the boot, and having to press the Esc key goes away.

Re: Correct Mobo Replacement for R61 with Nvidia dreaded beeps
Understand the clarification now.
I would still prefer to have one of the boards that is for Penryn CPU.
I suppose I could just find any of those boards that I can and the best price and then flash the BIOS. Is the flash something done in WIndows? i.e. if it throws an error on boot, how do I go about installing the modded BIOS?

You can pick up a Merom CPU such as T5270 or T7100 for $5 or so, flash the BIOS and then install your Penryn...Is the flash something done in WIndows? i.e. if it throws an error on boot, how do I go about installing the modded BIOS?
