Intel Wireless drivers from IBM is problematic

I have serious problems with the latest drivers for the Intel PRO 2200BG from IBM website. It will constantly disconnect, and will be so difficult to get connected, at times I have to shut down my laptop or wireless router and resume connection after great difficulty.

So I tried the drivers from Intel website, the older version 8.1.1.0. It was fine for 7 hours with no disruptions. Now I am trying the 9.0.1.0. Quite ok too. THe only problem is this version will not show the wireless option in Fn+F5.

My laptop is T40 and I am using Linksys wireless WAG54G ADSL gateway.

I have had no problem what so ever with the new driver for the Intel 2200 B,G. I realy don't think your problem is a driver issue. It could be your card or more likely your router or ISP. I would at least check them out.

Actually I have checked it for a number of days. My router and ISP are fine. I should say, there are some compatibility issues with my model of IBM Intel wireless module(different model with T42,T43), the router and other things. So the only money saving turnaround is to try the old drivers and it worked well. Again, I did mentioned my unit is T40 which might be the cause too.

The newest driver has been problematic for me as well, so much so that I'm posting this via my cell phone.

Yeah, I found version 8.1 of the drivers are more stable.

For those having problems with the new driver. The old driver must first be deleted prior to installing the new driver. If this was not done this could be the answer to your problem.

I was on a totally new OS install with the new Intel driver, so I guess it is not the old drivers being residue in the computer.

I am happy to say: Up to now, since the switch, there are no disconnection using the oldest driver. For once, I thought my ADSL Linksys gateway is a problem and was almost going to sell it!

You know, it's interesting, I just ran into the same problem two days ago.

I finally got the Software Installer to work for me, and it showed that there was an upgrade available for my wireless LAN card (Intel 2200 B/G) so, thinking that updates are good, I installed it.

After which, I could not manage the power to the Wireless Adapter by using FN+F5, and could not use IBM Access Connections with it either. I tried to roll back the driver with no luck, and finally ended up calling 1-800-IBM-SERV.

Well after talking to the first level of help, he told me that this is certainly an interesting problem, and that I should "check back in a few weeks for another upgrade."

Whoa, buddy. Weeks? Your update messed up my computer, and you want me to wait?

But I kept calm and kindly asked to be transfered to the next help desk level.

When I got to that, I spoke with someone more technical and we troubleshooted for a while, and my situation my blowing his mind. We reinstalled Access Connections, removed Access Connections, Removed the Driver, Reinstalled them both, rolled back the driver to version 8.?.?.??, and FN+F5 and Access Connections would not use that adapter. Windows used it perfectly, but the others could not.

Always remember to put the driver before the program, as I was told this sets the driver that Access Connections will use.

We ended up not getting the problem resolved because the last two options he could think of were to:

A: Use System Restore.
B: Use Factory Restore.

I wasn't about to reformat my hard drive, and he didn't think so either, but I told him I wouldn't trust System Restore with the family cow, let alone my data. So I got off the phone and Ghosted my drive.

Now I get to call back!

Software Installer has updated the Intel Pro Wireless driver to 9.0.1.21 and no problem at all.

Well, I believe I figured out half of my problem.

I was using version 8 drivers for the wireless adapter, and still had the version 9 program installed. So I uninstalled the Intel PROset Wireless, and reinstalled the old Intel Sebring API that I found in the

C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\WLANCX2

directory.

And that restored Access Connections ability to utilize the adapter, and the FN+F5 control, but I can't browse wirelessly. Although that could be a completely different matter.

But it works!!...Sorta!

I have updated my 2200BG driver to 9.0
no problem at all

Just a simple question to those having problems with the new driver.
Are you using Access Connection?

Same questons for those not having problems with the lastest driver, are you uinsg Access Connection?

I am just asking because even though Access Connection can be useful in some instances, I find that Windows connection manager worked best for me.

Hi,
I just got the same Intel 2200BG wireless mini pci. I am trying to install it on my R40e. There is no antenna on the mini pci or in the laptop slot. When I turn on the laptop, there a system error is posted and it prompted me to remove the mini pci.

I was wondering if it is because I need the antenna or this mini pci just does not work with my TP R40e.

Would appreciate any advice on this.

I have a T-42 and I have been using the latest Intel 2200BG drivers from IBM and the latest IBM Access Connections version available for at least a couple of months. My system works quite well with my SMC router, but I had to set my IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers manually in TCP/IP to have a reliable connection all the time.

I too found the version 9 drivers that I downloaded from INTEL to work the best, but I also lost the ability to turn the wireless radio on and off with Fn + F5. And if I recall, I couldn't use the version of Access Connections available at the time with this driver.

Hi,
Yes it is error 1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power Off and remove the mini pci network card.
