T43 15" strange problem

Recently a T43 15" version fell into my lap. 6 months later the hard drive crashed. I opened it up to find that the caddy appeared to be the wrong size. That is: the hard drive was installed in a caddy but instead of sitting flush with the edge of the laptop case (and thus being screwed into the case) it was sitting about an inch deep into the case with a piece of foam sitting between the edge of the drive and the edge of the laptop case.

Question: this can't be the standard issue right? A previous owner must have replaced the hard drive and used a caddy from a 14" T43 case and inserted the foam to plug up the extra space?

Second question: if the above is the case, does anyone know where I can find a T43 15" hard drive caddy? I've scoured the internet and can't find one. Does anyone out there have an extra?

Hi Brian, welcome to thinkpads.com!

The 14" and 15" hdd caddies are exactly the same. It's the drive covers that are different. The 15" has longer "legs" that will reach and clip over the screws on the caddy. They are available all over eBay (and elsewhere). Check our Market Place section of the forum, someone likely has some for sale there.
