Any recommendations for a bluetooth mouse?

#1 Post by sona1111 » Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:56 pm

Hello, I have been enjoying my thinkpad t60 for a while, but I realize that if i am going to be sitting for a while it would be more efficient to have a standard mouse to use. I would like to take advantage of the integrated bluetooth of the t60 and buy one which can connect with it. To add another filter, I also use ubuntu as my primary OS. Would anyone be able to recommend a mouse that meets these requirements?

I use one of Lenovo's own mice with my T61 with Ubuntu with no trouble at all. Every now and again it doesn't play ball when waking from sleep, but simply disconnecting and reconnecting does the trick.

I can't see you having issues with any good quality Bluetooth mouse, my next purchase is going to be one of the ThinkPad styled mice from the Lenovo website to match my T61.

Been using the Lenovo ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse (model MOBTC9L) daily for 2+ years. Wonderful mouse! Nice texture, nice size, good battery life, tracks well on all surfaces. Gets a bit jumpy with full-steam wireless activity like a big transfer, but no big deal. I want another just in case something happens to this one.

A mouse should fit your hand ergonomically, if you use it alot. It doesn't mean you should buy an "ergonomic" mouse though, often there are much marketing gimmicks. I have relatively large hands (by Asian standard), but somehow I prefer small mouse more.

I use a MS Bluetooth 5000 myself for the past few years, it seems to fit my hand quite well and the battery life is good. Since it's an old model, you may be able to find some available cheaply on eBay.

2 years ago the rubber "melted", but I "fixed" it and it's still going strong... http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=96297

Cheers.

The MS 5000 is a great mouse. While it is small, I can palm a basketball and still comfortably use a 5000.
There have been several different versions, this is the one I'm referring to:

But I prefer the MS 8000, larger with 5 buttons. Also no longer made and getting very rare - only see two available on ebay.

I have not used a bluetooth mouse yet with my T60 or T61 Thinkpads. I have used notebook mice, corded USB, which are an annoyance. I have used cordless mice with USB receivers and experienced occasional if not frequent problems, mostly erratic cursor movement, which is generally very annoying. Besides that, the receiver sticking out of the right side of the Thinkpad gets in the way, and 2 of the 3 USB ports are on the right side, and I am right handed.

However, a couple of weeks ago I received my new Logitech m325 cordless mouse and so far I'm extremely pleased with it. The receiver is so small it's not a problem on the right side and so far the cursor movement has been very smooth and reliable. Battery life is advertized to be as high as 18 months on a single AA. I like the feel in my hand (I take an extra large glove). The cheapest mouse I've bought in a long time (got the OEM for about $17 off ebay).

What is the real battery life ? Lenovo advertises 4 to 6 months.

I know this has gone and past, but I'd just like to share with everyone these ridiculous mouse solutions that my Roommate bought for his computers:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-HP-Bluetoot ... 4862dd9551

There's also ones for CardBus, which doesn't have the chunk taken out at the corner for the 34mm ExpressCard interface, in the 54mm slot.

The idea is that it can be plugged into your laptop when you're not using it-to charge. When you want to use it, you simply pop it out, and it works like any other odd Bluetooth mouse. My roommate says they definitely beat touchpads.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

and yes. I am a bit of a lunatic.

That looks nice. Too bad some of the newer Thinkpads only have Expresscard 34.

Saves lugging around an odd chaped chunk of mouse though.

Sounds about right, I have this mouse as well.
edit: I think mine worked for 3 months til I replaced the batteries.
Though it is somewhat small for my tastes.
