WTB IBM t60p with ips flexview
WTB IBM t60p with ips flexview
Hello, I am new to this board but find it really hard finding a local ibm t60p with a flexview. I'm looking for one with a good screen, and decent battery life.
I'm up in Canada and looking to spend somewhere around 200-300$ shipped. Let me know if you guys have anything!
UPDATE: FOUND ONE LOCALLY, THANKS GUYS

Already contacted the guy, unfortunately it's already sold! It was right up my alley!

Another option:
buy a 15" T60/T60p with a cracked/faulty LCD, they should be cheap enough.
And then send it to me for a new UXGA screen with LED-backlight ex-factory!
See my signature below.

The R60 or R60e are pretty cheap these days too. The SXGA+ and UXGA IPS screens are drop in replacements on those too.

The only such machine I'd consider is one with QXGAZaZ wrote:The R60 or R60e are pretty cheap these days too. The SXGA+ and UXGA IPS screens are drop in replacements on those too.

great ideas guys! I've had a few private messages already from members, you guys are very welcoming.
I would love to find a cheap broken laptop and grab a screen with that LED but I find it annoying dealing with customs and shipment delays between the US and Canada :S
RealBlackStuff, forgive my lack of knowledge but do screens yellow due to the pixels or just the ccfl backlight? If/when my future ibm screen starts to dim/yellow could I send it to to have that fixed? or do you have to change the led before it starts to occur?

Since I doubt my good friend RBS is awake right now, I'll answer that one for you:racecar wrote:do screens yellow due to the pixels or just the ccfl backlight? LCDs get yellow due to aging polarizer and backlight (CCFL). LED-lit panels age a lot slower than the CCFL ones.
Chances are that you'll still have a working LCD (talking about the LED Hydis ones here) by the time the rest of your laptop is ready to be buried with honours...

Customs is not that bad for tech stuff. Just make sure no one ship to you via UPS because UPS charges a ridicoulous brokerage fee where as USPS and Canada Post don't.
If you are at all handy, a Frankenpad might be the best solution for you. It's not that difficult and good parts can be sourced here. Lots of good members here to help you out with that.

I'd like to think I'm a pretty handy guy, I've built guitar tube amps and other various things. I'm just worried about compatibility. It seems that you really need to get down to the specific serial/model numbers to make sure everything works together. I've got a lot of reading to do!
It just sucks that there is no 'ultimate' laptop and the only way is to get the best attributes of every laptop and put it together into this so called frankenpad.

Did you ever manage to push 900V through output EL34 valves of a conventional 1959 Marshall? I did...racecar wrote: I've built guitar tube amps and other various things.

Re: WTB IBM t60p with ips flexview
Hello everyone,
thanks for all the replies so far.
I managed to find a t60 locally that had sxga flexview. It is still bright, in fact the entire laptop looks brand new! Battery is in very good condition as well. got it for 100bucks
Here are the specs:
T2400(1.83GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X1300, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
I already put 3gb of ram in it so far and am using a temporary 100gb harddrive should i choose to get an ssd. I loaded windows 7 on it and everything seems to be working perfectly.
The only problem I have is watching youtube videos. when watching in 720p, even with maximum performance the video stutters. It stutters for both chrome and explorer. Does anyone have any advice on this? is it a windows 7 thing? Should I put it back to windows xp pro?
I really like the screen so far. it's only sxga but to mean eons better than all of the t4xx series laptops!

What would be the best machine for QXGA? Any of the R/T-6x series?ZaZ wrote:The R60 or R60e are pretty cheap these days too. The SXGA+ and UXGA IPS screens are drop in replacements on those too.

Re: WTB IBM t60p with ips flexview
I guess that's a personal preference. The T series are lighter and offers GPU options. The R60 is chunkier, but less is less expenisve, and tends to run cooler and quieter. I went with the R60e because I like the touch padless palm rest aesthetics. Maybe some day I can find the 4:3 R61 board for a reasonable price and stick the T9500 in there.
I would go with the UXGA over the QXGA. The UXGA has a much more friendly 133 pixel density, and it's easier to find and less expensive when you do. Plus, the UXGA is significantly brighter, about 30% brighter than the QXGA.
