t60 and a new ssd
t60 and a new ssd
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a used intel x25.m ssd. Prices are low enough.
Are there any recommendations on installing it in a t60 and putting xp on it?
Aligining, drivers, ssd toolbox, anything else I should be aware of when I install?
I'm considering installing the original restore discs to keep the Active IBM support button working. Typically, even with an 80gb hard drive I don't have many files on this computer.

One: don't do it.Are there any recommendations on installing it in a t60 and putting xp on it?
Well, XP from the recovery disks won't be aligned anywhere near properly...so you'll have to play with GParted a bit...Aligining, drivers, ssd toolbox, anything else I should be aware of when I install?

What I'm trying to say here:
a) Support for XP ends in a year
b) T60 - and I mean any T60 - is perfectly capable of running W7...

I'd recommend Win 7 but XP is doable. Just a little more work. Recently got a T60p myself, mainly for the screen, and Win 7 runs great on it. I've maxed out the RAM and added a SSD.

A Windows Vista or 7 installation disc will properly align the partition too. One can download the Windows 7 disc here.ajkula66 wrote:you'll have to play with GParted a bit.

You can't use that method when you're installing XP from recovery media.ZaZ wrote: A Windows Vista or 7 installation disc will properly align the partition too. One can download the Windows 7 disc here.

Re: t60 and a new ssd
If it is the same as with Intel's 330 it is straight on (perhaps you can not use AHCI before all T60 drivers are installed). No need to bother with any tweaks other than what Intel's toolbox does for you included trim support and Intel also supplies you with an alignment software which is run after XP is installed.
Re: t60 and a new ssd
I had good luck building the same thing months back, I tried to make a concise write up in this thread.

after a month of operation everything seems fine.
