WTB: smartcard reader for T61p

#1 Post by enosdan » Sun Mar 24, 2013 3:23 pm

Hello,
I would like to buy an internal smartcard reader together with its plastic door for a T61p 14".
I can either pay or swap with an ordinary pcmcia/expresscard reader.

Bye
Enos, from Italy
Thanks to Debian Linux my T61 is still kicking in 2015.

I'd be glad to offer you one, I'll send you a PM and we can work out the details.

Anybody from Europe?

TuuS is a lovely guy and has all I need but I'm not keen on giving the US Mailing Service two thirds of money...

Raleigh North Carolina to just outside London England was only $15.00USD. It took 6 days Priority Small Flat Rate box. Im sure yours will fit in the same box. Seems pretty resonable for tracking numbers and time.

YMMV

Ron, the priority mail small flatrate box price increased to about $24 this year. Pretty sharp increase and will most likely result in less revenue, not more. Much like the former battery ban, another example of usps digging their own grave, however ups and fedex are much higher. End result is exports from usa will drop... just what our economy needs, and I'm sure china is thrilled lol

What happened to "small parcel rate" - the one that if it fits through the template that have of a mail slot in a door then it qualifies for small parcel rate, which is about $3.

There is no service of that name, but if the item is less then 1/4" total thickness (even without packing this would be much thicker) then it can go at letter rate (with non-machineable surchage) which is only a few dollars depending on weight. There is also a 1st class parcel rate, but they aren't allowed to be used on a paypal transaction because no tracking or delivery confirmation. We did discuss this option but there are additional costs involved and wouldn't have made a huge difference in cost.

It's difficult to ship a $10 part/s half way around the world without the shipping costing more than the part/s.

Besides outsourcing manufacturing, shipping costs contribute to the US being less competitive. You can typically order items, even $2 items, from China which geographically is halfway around the world with free shipping. Same item from the US is at least $30 in shipping alone. For me shipping cost is always a factor.

I agree, it's hard to believe that China understands the advantages to having a lot of exports so they subsidize exports and the usa jacks up the costs. I'd say we have a lot of feeble minded leaders in our country that don't understand the simple fact that jacking up fees (be it postage costs or taxes) only serves to kill the economy. I actually suggested he try to source the parts from china, but he was unable to find them.

I really wish the US government would follow china's lead and subsidize exports, we have an abundance of used equipment and the rest of the world has need of parts to keep these things running, but since our leaders are clueless, china ends up getting all our junk computers that are to damaged and abused to sell and strips them into pieces and sells them all over the world. You should see the pallet-loads of laptops that the chinese brokers buy, they all get loaded into shipping containers after they are unloaded with all the typical walmart type goods coming from china. They've formed a monopoly on world trade.

As for the parts this member needs, I have both the PC card assembly and the matching bezel he wants and am only asking $10 for both, that includes pulling the parts and packing them, but unless I can teach them to fly, there is no way I can get them to italy without the help of usps. </rant>

Actually I tried that, but couldn't hold my breath long enough. I'm willing to try the cork in a bottle method, maybe with the right gulf-stream currents and really good timing we can get it there lol
