Purchasing T4x screws in middle quantities
Hi,
Is there any place to order Thinkpad screws from the T4x series in reasonable quantities ?
I'm looking for packs of 50, 100 or 200 screws, either new or second hand.
On eBay, I mostly could see small packs for just one laptop and it makes them quite expensive when you need more.
I'm especially looking for the Torx screw with the little pin at the center that we see on some T40 models. Smaller quantities (around ~40 -50) of such screws would already be great.
I'm also looking for the corresponding special torx screwdriver.
I'm in Switzerland.
Thanks if you have some good address, either in my country or abroad.

I would replace those Torx screws with matching Phillips screws.

On EBay I buy entire screw-sets for a T4x-series aptop, about 40-50 pieces at a time, usually for $3-$4 per set. That's does not seem expensive to me, since I've only done it once or twice. I only have 6 laptops, I'm not a laptop repair shop. I know the repair manual says, "Throw away each screw after use", but frankly that's a big waste, I have thrown away only a couple of screws and mostly use the screw-sets for backups when I get a machine missing A LOT of screws, or if I lose one.

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.

Typical IBM over-engineering, although in certain parts of the ThinkPad (where there was constant vibration) it made sense. Basically it was a way for IBM to charge more for every repair call or service.systemBuilder wrote:On EBay I buy entire screw-sets for a T4x-series aptop, about 40-50 pieces at a time, usually for $3-$4 per set. Not sure this is just an IBM thing. Working as a mechanical engineer for electronic manufacturing companies, this is standard practice. Personally, I reuse them if possible.cadillacmike68 wrote:Typical IBM over-engineering,.
