T43p LED indicators issue

#1 Post by Pawlisko » Tue Mar 26, 2013 1:31 pm

I do have IBM ThinkPad T43p (2668-H2U with some modifications).

Almost 2 years ago I was exchanging my CCFL lamp in my display and afterwards my LED indicators (except WiFi activity) died.

Everything works:
BT, CAPS, NumLock, HDD, Power, Battery or even I can put computer to sleep but there is no LED indication about any of that.

I've exchanged LCD Inverter and LCD Cable - no change.

I would like to have it working (Laptop will serve as Remote Desktop for my tablet).

Any ideas what else I should change or look into?

Best

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Looks like you have already checked the most likely culprits. The next thing is to check all the motherboard fuses. As you will notice in this picture (courtesy of forum member RealBlackStuff), many of them are clustered around the LCD connector. There is probably an open one.

Thank you Neil for welcoming.

I do not know much about fuses. I had problem when my wife short-circuited my laptop so I paid a guy to correct it. As I see it now he corrected F2 fuse. But it was after my ccfl lamp and LED indicators failure

I have a picture of fuses by the LCD connector. Please let me know where should I upload it.

Thanks

You can upload the picture to a free service like imageshack or photobucket and post a link to it...

Looks like you had a major melt-down of the two chips under the white DC-in cable connector.
I'm surprised your machine works at all!
To fix that, you'd need to replace the whole motherboard.

Thanks for the assessment.

I guess that in that case I will just use laptop without LED indicators and if it breaks I will just throw it away.

Don't throw out, motherboards are cheap and not to hard to install
