T410 wireless

#1 Post by thebully » Thu Mar 28, 2013 9:47 am

Hi I have a T410 that keeps losing its wireless. Basically the wireless device disapears from windows and if I reboot the laptop it wont get past the post and says that an unauthorised wireless card is installed. The first time this happened I removed the keyboard and reseated the wireless card and it fixed the issue however it still happens and I ahve found that removing the battery from the laptop and replacing the battery gets it working again.

Any ideas why this is happening, it is a seller refurbished laptop from a company on the net, I have had 5 other T410s from the same company and they have been perfect and have been buying them as cheap workhorses for the sales people at who work out of the office.

The "fix" you describe to get around the unauthorized card message at bootup sounds impossible, notwithstanding that you state that it works. Regardless, the machine probably has an unauthorized wireless card in it, in which case you have two options:
1) install a modified BIOS which permits the card, or
2) install one of the wireless cards which is authorized for that machine.

So ... what wireless card is in the machine? More specifically, is there an FRU # printed on it, and if so, what is it?

Hi EOMtp thanks for your reply sorry for the delay.

The lady who uses this laptop doesnt like giving it to me to fix and then complains when it is still dropping the wireless and requiring the battery to be removed to get past the unauthorised card error.

Today I removed the card from under the keyboard and installed an Edimax 150mbps micro usb wifi dongle instead as thought that would be the cheapest and simplest way to fix the issue for her.

I have the card in front of me its an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 FRU P/N: 60Y3231

Its a really wierd issue this but happens on average a couple of times a day, wireless just drops and then after a reboot I get the error at bootup about the unauthorised card. I remove the battery hold the power button for 5 secs then put the battery back in and power up and the error does not come up and wireless works fine for a few hours until it happens again. Maybe there is some fault with the card or motherboard but otherwise the laptop works fine.

Anyway no complaints so far with the usb dongle bit of a work around though.
