I have a T61p with the Nvidia Quadro GFX processor.
I really like the 4:3 screen.
Wondering if a T60 might be quieter and cooler than the T61p. Or if there's a T61 model out there that uses like integrated graphics to deliver lower heat.
Processor speed, even now, doesn't matter IMO, just as long as it is dual core.
I'm intent on running linux installs on these things to use as word processing and websurfing machines. It is just as fast as my modern core i5 system.
Which is quieter, overall?
Re: Which is quieter, overall?
I just happen to have a 14" T61 with integrated Intel graphics that will be up for sale soon. Depending on what options one would want with it, it could go fairly cheap.
PM if interested.

I've had experience with T60(p) with V5200, X1400, Intel graphics and a T61 with integrated graphics.
The T61 with integrated graphics is definitely the most quiet and cool one, even with a Merom cpu. Installing a Penryn cpu makes it even more cool and quiet.

Re: Which is quieter, overall?
I agree, the t61 with Intel graphics is a very cool system, the coolest CPU would be the T8100, also affordable. Under light use passive cooling should suffice so you might not even need to run the fan at all until you start to give it a workout and in that case some tweaking can keep the fan spinning slow so you don't notice it. I even built one with a T9500, the fastest cpu and even it rarely needed to use the fan, partially because I used a discrete T61p fan with it, but the integrated fan will more then suffice.
