Forum Messages get High Spam Ratings

#1 Post by BillG » Mon Apr 08, 2013 9:09 am

Wondered why I wasn't getting any forum emails so I checked my server's spam folders. Seems emails from thinkpads.com are getting an outrageously high spam ranking of 30! Below is a partial header listing (my info replaced with <blahblahblah>):
Return-Path: <nobody@sun.imwebd.com>
Received: from sun.imwebd.com (thinkpads.com [67.214.227.38]) by <blahblahblah> with SMTP;
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 13:26:24 -0700
Received: from nobody by sun.imwebd.com with local (Exim 4.80)
(envelope-from <nobody@sun.imwebd.com>)
id 1UKwvE-0002Nx-QD
for <blahblahblah>; Wed, 27 Mar 2013 14:26:12 -0600
To: "=?UTF-8?B?QmlsbEc=?=" <blahblahblah>
Subject: =?UTF-8?B?TmV3IHByaXZhdGUgbWVzc2FnZSBoYXMgYXJyaXZlZA==?=

Note the items highlighted in red. Having both the subject and To fields UTF-8 encoded is weird and unnecessary and popular spammers behavior. Also having the return-path and the From from different domains does it. Fails SPF which makes it look like it's a fake email address.

All that adds up to a Commtouch spam score of 30 (15 is borderline). 30 is out of this world.
