X201 - video on Thinkpad screen issue.

I purchased an X201 recently. It needed a motherboard. So I bought one off eBay. After reattaching video to test it all I can see on the screen is a very faint Thinkpad logo and then nothing. It DOES work with an external screen just fine. I know the Thinkpad screen is good because it worked with the old board (it just had other issues). Any idea if motherboards can be incompatible with screens by any chance or it's just the connector? Thanks.
