iPhone 5 hotspot and T43p intel 2200BG not connecting

#1 Post by forum83 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:18 am

I have a T43p running XP sp3 completely up to date.
Intel wireless 2200 bg with the most current driver.
Trying to connect to a iPhone 5 hotspot...

The computer can see the hotspot through windows and will not connect, then tried TAC and it can see the hotspot and will not connect.

I have never had a problem connecting to any WPA or WPA2 wireless networks...

I think the wireless card is too old, if so can I replace the internal one. I know I can get a new USB one.

Thanks for any help.... I have seen this issue with the iPhone 4/4s here (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=100133) tried everything from this thread and nothing.

Do you have to pay a 'tether fee"? I know t-mobile does this with their smart phones now. My girlfriend can not use the wifi access point on her Galaxy. Older phones would just hook up and run. It is built into the carrier software to block without subscription. Maybe you need to jailbreak in order for it to work. Just guessing really. I have not had an iPhone more recent than a 2nd gen.

The hotspot is active through Verizon and works with all my other devices... Just not the intel 2200bg.

Does everyone think this is just a intel 2200bg issue...

Thanks

I have a couple of T4x machines that have the 2200BG cards, which I use to connect to different wireless routers-Including my iPhone 5 when used as a hot spot. The first time that I setup a wireless connection using the 2200BG, after entering the WPA2 password it gets 'stuck' at acquiring the IP address. Once I reboot the computer it automatically connects without any issue from that point on.

Make sure you have the latest driver from Lenovo's website-or go to Intel's website and search for the latest driver there.
I lost count...

Are you using Windows to connect or the thinkvantage software?

I am almost positive I have the newest drivers available, that was my first check.

Thanks!

iPhone 5 hotspot and T43p intel 2200BG not connecting

I am using the built in utility in Windows XP to connect. I tend to stay away from the IBM/Lenovo Utility.

I tried that first and no conneciton even after restart... which version of the intel driver are you using. Also what wireless settings are you using WPA2 AES?

Thanks

You most certainly can.

IBM (Atheros-chipped) b/g or abg II would be my preferred choice.

As long as you stick with IBM-issued card for the T43 generation, there are no issues.

I probably have a couple of them somewhere, send me a PM tomorrow night to remind me to look for them...

Are there any .n cards? or ones that are more compatiable with WPA2 only connections.

There are non-IBM Atheros and Broadcom N cards which can be found on ebay...you will need a modded BIOS to use these, though.

I don't have an iPhone so I can't give you much guidance there, but "N" is nice...I have it in my modded T43p (Atheros card) and am loving it...

The Intel wireless 2200 bg will not connect to a WPA2 only wireless network.... I would like .N... But really just a card that connects to WPA2 with no issues and easy to install.

This is not a true statement. I do all the time with my Linux comps.

Google found this for me. It could be your answer.

Replaced the intel card from a older t42 today. It was the abg version 2 card... No issues and connects perfectly to a wpa2 only hotspot. To best of my knowledge the 2200bg will not connect to a wpa2 only network under windows.

I have a T42p running Win XP SP3 with an Intel 2200 bg in it and just tried to connect it to the WPA2 hotspot of my Android phone. Which it did without a hitch. Is it possible that it works with Android but not an iPhone?
T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)
