I can't believe Sharp did away with the keyboard style of the OZ-770, it was the biggest selling point to me.

I used to use an iPAQ 4155 but it has been idle, forgotten and neglected ever since I got a tablet PC.

The iPAQ just didn't quite have enough functionality to justify carrying it around anymore.

For simple notes and phone numbers and appointment organization, my phone works just as well. Plus, it is a phone :)

For anything more complicated that I would want to do with my iPAQ, the tablet is just superior in every possible way except for the fact that I can't fit it in my pocket.

Workpad? Thats interesting...
I had several Palmpilots, most broke out of warranty...
Palm 1000 - Working
Palm 3 - Busted
Palm IIV - Busted
Palm IIV (3 Transparent ones) - All busted
Palm Zire 71 - Dead by its self. Battery dead, something rattling around in it somehow

"None of them have been dropped/physical trama"

I noticed the only one of the batch not broke was the Pilot 1000. I guess they don't make them like they used to. I'm currently using a Palm Pilot Pro since my Visor has been giving me some slight trouble. The backlights out but everything else works great.

EDIT: Sometime since posting this, the backlight in my PalmPilot Professional magically started to work just like new again and around the same time my Visor's backlight gave out but at least the Visor itself has started to function properly again.

You can get the 512k upgrade, the 1mb Pro upgrade or the Palm III upgrade that gives you flash and IR capability, the III upgrade can also support OS 4.1. You can also take the memory card out of any Pilot 1000, 5000, Personal or Pro and use it in your Pilot. The only thing that separated the Pilot 1000 and 5000 is the memory card it shipped with and the same goes for the Pro and Personal. If I'm not mistaken, there was also an upgrade made by TRG called the SuperPilot that gave you 8mb RAM and Palm OS 3.

The great thing about the Pilot and Palm Pilot line of PDA's is that the folks who made them took into consideration that the device would be obsolete the next year and made it easy to upgrade. I wish companies would do that nowadays with current products.

I finally upgraded to something made this century. I was lucky enough to have a friend give me their old retired Palm IIIc. My first PDA with a color screen or a rechargable battery, both of which seem to be things you really don't realise the convenience of until you have them.

I still use my Hewlett Packard: HP 200LX - 10 years old and going strong! :D

It runs off of (2) AA batteries, plus a coin cell backup battery. It has a PCMCIA type II card slot, a serial port and an IR port. It has 18 built-in applications including Lotus 123, Pocket Quicken, Stop Watch, World Time, Data Comm (terminal), LapLink, and a HP Calculator (which includes financial, business percentage, TVM, cash flow, conversions, statistics, date calculations, and Solver for working with algebraic equations). In addition to all the above it runs MS-DOS programs (real mode). 8)

I wanted the bigger screen for reading....I hear there's a loox w/ a 4" screen but I couldn't find it for sale in the US.

Eventually, I may put Linux on it....we'll see down the road. :)

You know, I never really thought about it until I set my IIIc back down on the cradle to charge but it seems as if I get a new PDA addiction with each new PDA I get.

With every PDA I can remember owning so far, I'd be using it 24/7 at first when I recieve the unit but then a few months later I'dlay the thing to rest in my desk drawer or on my desktop to collect dust and either a few more months later I'll regain my addiction to it or I'll get a new PDA sometime down the line and be addicted tot aht and repeat the same process. Is anyone else like this?

Handspring

#58 Post by schen » Wed May 03, 2006 11:48 am

My wife and I both use the late-great Handspring Edge (mine Blue, hers Silver). I still love it for the size (or lack there-of), elegant design and the fact that it does everything I need in an organizer. We even have a pretty much full complement of acessories (camera, dictionary, DB, keyboard). My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get the Xircom WiFi card to work, but that's really more the fault of lack of support from Intel (after they swallowed Xircom) than a problem with the Handspring. :D
