T61 6459-CTO Is it a T61P?

#1 Post by Pete B » Thu Apr 18, 2013 2:26 pm

I have read in several places that the T61 6459-CTO is a T61P but that
some do not have the P designation.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

The system will boot to the BIOS but I'm not able to find any information
about the graphics chip type or the display resolution. Is there a way to
determine this from the BIOS or serial number info?

Go to Control Panel/Display and check Settings.
If your machine has Nvidia Quadro FX 570M graphics, you have a T61p.
Anything else is a regular T61.
The above is assuming your OS has the proper graphics drivers installed.

Otherwise D/L and run Everest: http://download.cnet.com/Everest-Ultima ... 99291.html

Sorry I should have said it only boots to BIOS and it does not last long since
the video is bad so I probably can't install the OS. I've got a battery on order
and I'll probably order a motherboard soon.

I'm wondering that display panel I have before I order the MB.

Thanks for your help.

Go here and use your model and serial numbers to find out what parts the machine originally came with: http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/po ... RTlYzNEEx/
Given the motherboard mfg/fru number, you should be able to find out what GPU is installed.

Thanks again.
Display is 15.4 inch WSXGA+ (1680x1050)

Mainboard is: 42W7652 which I think is the 140M version
I'll probably look for a 42W7651 Intel version to avoid future issues or
better the 42W7875 which I think is the Penryn Intel version.

So it is not a P then since it does not have the Quadro FX 570M graphics
which I'm fine with just wanted to confirm one way or another.

Yes, you are correct.

You have a T61 with nvs140m that was built in 2007 with Merom CPU. The ideal board to get would be from a unit built in 08/08 or newer. These are rare but I can often get them if you're interested.

Thanks for confirming TuuS.

I've come across a 44C3933 motherboard but just found that I think it is f
for a 14" wide display type only - or am I mistaken?

Yes, the 44c3933 was only used in the 14.1 widescreen from January 2008 until August 2008 and a few special order systems built after august, but only the ones used in august or later have the good gpu. If you want the 15.4" version I have a very rare special order T61 build in October 2008 that I've confirmed has the original board. These boards cost about twice what the older ones cost, but it's the only way you can be sure you're getting a good GPU.
