Router setup
I just bought a Sysco router, model E-1500, I think. I wanted to get it working with my old x41. I had to download and install xp spc3, which I did. After all that, I got a message that the computer did not have the capability to hook to a network. Subsequently, I set it up quite easily on my Toshiba laptop..the one I use for the net. What gives? do I have to buy some sort of network card for the x41? I thought it already had wireless capabilility built in. I have an old hp bluetooth usb adapter. Tried it, but it required a driver I didn't have. How do I wake up the network hardware on the x41? I went into cmos and turned all the network stuff on. Actually, it was already on, so I didn't have to change anything.

Re: Router setup
There's a panel on the bottom of the laptop that can come off with 3 screws.
If you remove that, you should see a wifi-card there on the left, a modem card in the middle, and a RAM slot above/right of the modem.
If there is no wifi card (with 2 antenna wires attached, Main=Grey, Aux=Black), then you need to get one.
If there is one, you will need to load the corresponding drivers.

Re: Router setup
Can one get an X41 without a wireless adapter...? Of course, it can always be removed afterwards...
There are PC Card and USB Wi-Fi adapters, BTW.
Cheers.

Re: Router setup
Can you point me to the site where I can download the driver for the x41 wifi card? I've had the laptop for 5 or 6 years now, and I'm thinking I may have deleted the driver to ensure wifi could not be turned on...this in order to give me another layer of security regarding my business data. My policy is never to long onto the net or allow anyone to log onto my business computer for any reason. I'll do a search for the driver, but sometimes I come up dry.
Re: Router setup
Tried installing System Update and let it install the driver by itself...?

Re: Router setup
Could you please provide the full 7-character model number of that X41, it's on the same sticker that holds the serial number and the production date, located on the bottom of the machine...Danny Davis wrote:Can you point me to the site where I can download the driver for the x41 wifi card?

Re: Router setup
Ok, I removed the plate. It has the net card with the 2 wires...so it is network capable. The router I bought is the Cisco N1500. Seems I've read somewhere that the "N" designation makes it faster, but may not work without a N compatible network card..which I doubt the x41 has, as it was built b4 all the latest network devices.

Re: Router setup
If you set up the router to broadcast in the "mixed" mode, your X41 should be able to connect to it.
