Thinkpad power jack

#1 Post by MikeCL » Mon Apr 22, 2013 9:45 pm

A bit confused.. I assume the center pin is (+) and the barrel is (-) for testing purposes shouldn't the T400 be charging? The charger came from an HP it's output is 18V

Does the thinkpad have some type of hidden special pin?

I'd strongly advise against using a non-ThinkPad AC adapter with a ThinkPad...

Yeah I know :(

turns out I was looking at the pinout wrong

it's charging right now and I'm sure a full charge with it off will be around 4 hours or so, but I'm not going to wait that long since I have to head out for work in about 2 hours.

FYI: http://www.kawakami-ca.com/images/20v_dc_plug.jpg

It's been documented that there's several different resistances being used, depending upon the wattage of the power supply:

If you really want to know what I did in a desperate measure to charge it I found the pins I needed on the jack, as I don't have the right jack size I did enough to get the battery fully charged in which I get a little over 3 hours on the 6 cell pack, not sure if that's good or not.

So I got to test the laptop running off the battery installing windows 7 on the SSD and it still has great life left.
