R51-1836 freezes when the battery is installed

#1 Post by cheystar » Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:16 am

I got a used r51-1836 and everything works fine except that when I am using the laptop with the battery it freezes on me. Even if I have the battery installed and the power cable plug still it freezes, but when I remove the battery and am using just the power adapter everything is fine. So what happens is that I will be using the computer and all of a sudden the mouse doesn't move. I can still see the computer is active cause of the hard drive and wifi signal flashing. Sometimes am able to turn the computer off by pressing the power button but most of the time it doesn't work I would need to take out the battery to turn it off. The keyboard sometimes responses like when this happens and the screen goes to sleep I press a key and the screen wakes up but still stuck. I tried ctrl-del-alt but it doesn't work. Any suggestion? The battery seems to be in good condition by what the power management program says but its the original battery so am not sure if I should get another one.

Is that an official IBM/Lenovo battery?
If you remove the wifi-card and/or modem, is it still freezing?
